Planning a family is such an incredible time and often sets future parents on a quest to finding out what they may need for their newborn short after giving birth, like items to care for postpartum needs, ready to eat meals in the freezer and the list goes on. For me, this looked more like scrubbing every corner of the house and purchasing baby essentials and more bows than my baby girl was able to wear. I invested a lot of time getting ready for birth and for the immediate postpartum period but fell short of understanding what may come next. There is no shortage of information about postnatal mood disorders, and although I thought I knew everything there is to know, I was convinced that this wouldn’t happen to me. After being diagnosed with Postpartum Depression nearly one year after birth, I wished I invested time in strengthening and understanding postpartum mental health.
